With its whitewashed facades, its asymmetrical two-sided roofs covered with tiles and its red, green or blue woodwork, the Basque house, or “etxe” contributes to the charm and authentic character of the landscapes of the Basque Country.

There are beautiful examples of traditional Basque architecture in the villages of Ainhoa, Espelette or Sare for example, which are among the "most beautiful villages in France", but also in Bayonne, Biarritz, Bidart, Guéthary, Saint Jean de Luz, Ciboure, Itxassou, Arbonne or Arcangues.

Neo-Basque architecture was brought back into fashion at the beginning of the 20th century by architects such as the Gomez Brothers, Henri Godbarge, André Pavlovsky or Albert Duplantier. In Biarritz, you can see beautiful neo-Basque villas from the Belle Epoque period in the Parc d'Hiver district, as well as in the Golf du Phare area, or in the city center.
